Teaching in the Garden (Presented by CAFF & Life Lab)
When? Wednesday September 2nd, 3:30-6:00pm
Where? Salinas
A healthy, year-round school garden is a critical component of a vibrant nutrition education program. Studies have shown that kids who plant and grow vegetables are much more likely to eat them and be open to trying more varieties. Bringing nutrition education from the classroom into the garden setting can have a powerful effect on children's eating habits. In this workshop, school teachers and garden educators will gain more outdoor classroom management skills, and learn how to teach engaging garden based nutrition education lessons. Using the garden as an outdoor classroom, activities and lessons emphasizing nutrition, science and language arts will be shared. Tips for keeping children engaged and active in an outdoor setting will be emphasized. A healthy garden-based culinary treat will be prepared and shared.
